After being exhibited in the Pantheon in Rome, from November 1th to December 31, 2021 Ave Crus, Spes Una, will be on display at the Basilica of St. Lawrence in Lucina, Rome center.

Alongside the works by Bernini and Guido Reni, the 12 sculptures by Joseph Pace (created in the period of the Covid-19 pandemic 2019-2021), were made by the artist with recycled and industrial recycled materials, such as pearls, ancient crucifixes , bijoux and vintage materials, which the artist searches for among industrial residues all over the world.

Joseph Pace roots his sculptural work in the classical tradition with particular regard to the male and female torso. However, the artist introduces a postmodern turning point using fashion objects and accessories, mostly vintage, such as bijoux, miscellaneous pearls and objects, thus intending to contrast the throwaway culture that our society makes for things and objects. human beings.

His works also symbolically address the issues of the human body, its beauty and fragility, as well as dreams and illusions. Pace’s work is part of an artistic and intellectual journey through which the artist reinterprets some of our deepest psychic realities.

With this exhibition Pace intends to draw attention to the values ​​of spirituality, today the last bastion, according to the artist, of human freedom.
Among the works in the catalog, the artist’s book “Holy Bible”, a large vintage “Cross of pearls” in a Plexiglas capsule, the “Kneeling Pillow” made with thousands of pieces of costume jewelery such as the work “Do not miss the hope ”(sartorial bust) and the“ Cross of the Pantheon ”, a large asymmetrical processional cross which is now part of the Pantheon’s permanent art collection.

Pace explains the meaning of his work in these terms: “For our culture the Crucifix is ​​a symbol of the Cosmos, of the One, of the Infinite, of the Eternal. It is starting from the discovery of spirituality that one begins to have a greater awareness of humanity “.

After the third appointment at the Papal Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls scheduled for May 2022, the exhibition will be re-proposed in Europe and South America in Vienna, Cologne, Bruges, Paris and Rio de Janeiro.

Sculptor, painter, artist active in performances and installations Joseph Pace is one of the most significant artists on the international contemporary scene. Dopo essere stato esposto al Pantheon di Roma, dal 1 novembre al 31 dicembre 2021 Ave Crus, Spes Una, sarà in mostra presso la Basilica di San Lorenzo in Lucina, Roma centro. 

Accanto alle opere del Bernini e di Guido Reni, le 12 sculture di Joseph Pace (ideate nel periodo di pandemia Covid-19 2019-2021), sono state realizzate dell’artista con materiali di recupero e di riciclo industriale, come perle, crocifissi antichi, bijoux e materiali vintage, che l’artista ricerca tra i residui industriali in tutto il mondo.

Joseph Pace radica il suo lavoro scultoreo nella tradizione classica con particolare riguardo al torso maschile e femminile. Tuttavia, l’artista introduce un punto di svolta postmoderno utilizzando oggetti e accessori moda, per lo più vintage, come i bijoux, le miscellanee di perle e oggetti, intendendo così contrastare la cultura dello scarto che la nostra società fa per le cose e gli esseri umani.

Le sue opere affrontano simbolicamente anche le questioni del corpo umano, della sua bellezza e fragilità, nonché i sogni e le illusioni. Il lavoro di Pace si colloca in un percorso artistico e intellettuale attraverso cui l’artista reinterpreta alcune delle nostre più profonde realtà psichiche.

Con questa mostra Pace intende richiamare l’attenzione sui valori della spiritualità, oggi ultimo baluardo, secondo l’artista, della libertà dell’uomo.
Tra le opere in catalogo, il libro d’artista “Holy Bible”, una grande “Croce di perle” vintage in capsula di plexiglas, il “Cuscino da Inginocchiatoio” realizzato con migliaia di pezzi di bigiotteria come l’opera “Non perdete la speranza” (busto sartoriale) e la “Croce del Pantheon”, una croce astile asimmetrica di grandi dimensioni che ora fa parte della collezione permanente d’arte del Pantheon.

Pace spiega in questi termini il senso del suo lavoro: “Per la nostra cultura il Crocifisso è simbolo del Cosmo, dell’Uno, dell’Infinito, dell’Eterno. E a partire dalla scoperta della spiritualità che si inizia ad avere coscienza maggiore dell’umanità”.

Dopo il terzo appuntamento alla Basilica Papale di San Paolo Fuori le Mura previsto per maggio del 2022, la mostra verrà riproposta in Europa e Sud America a Vienna, Colonia, Bruges, Parigi e Rio de Janeiro.
